To lifeguard with York Park & Recreation, you must be at least 16 years old, be certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and have Lifeguard Certification. If you wish to manage, applicants must be at least 18 years of age; have all the lifeguard certifications; and have the State of Nebraska Pool Operators Certification. Lifeguarding Class Schedule

The York Parks and Recreation Department is offering two separate Red Cross Lifeguard Certification classes.  Successful completion of this class is needed in order to lifeguard in most Nebraska swimming pools, including York.  Participants must be at least 15 years old and be able to swim well.  Cost of the class is $125 per person.  This includes instruction book and CPR pocket mask.  We must have at least 3 people to have the class and 8 people are the maximum limit of people per class.  The fee must be paid in order to be registered for the class.  The dates and times of the classes are as follows:

 

January Class:

Monday, January 3 from 4:00 p.m. -- 8:00 p.m.

Monday, January 17 from 8:00 a.m. -- 4:00 p..m. (no school that day)

Monday, January 24 from 4:00 p.m. -- 8:00 p.m.

Monday, January 31 from 4:00 p.m. -- 8:00 p.m.

 

February/March Class:

Wednesday, February 23 from 7:00 p.m. -- 9:00 p.m.

Sunday, February 27 from 9:00 a.m. -- 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday, March 2 from 7:00 p.m. -- 10:00 a.m.

Sunday, March 6 from 1:00 p.m. -- 5:00 p.m.

Monday, March 7 from 7:00 p.m. -- 9:00 p.m.

 

Participants must attend all sessions of their class in their entirety in order to be eligible to pass, so please do not register for the class if you have a conflict on one of the days.  Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  You must pay the entire fee of $125 to be registered.  Both classes must have at least 3 people and no more than 8 people in order to be held.  These classes will be at the York Community Center at 211 E. 7th Street.
